Longarm Quilting Services

Do you love piecing tops but find getting them quilted a problem? Maybe it is because of lack of time or you find wrestling a huge quilt sandwich under your sewing machine foot just too backbreaking. It could be there are just so many quilt patterns you want to try that once you have pieced the top, you just want to move on to another project. Well they say “a quilt is not a quilt until it is quilted” so why not let me help you achieve this. I am an award winning quilter and have been quilting for over 17 years and have had my Gammill stitch regulated longarm quilting machine since March 2004. I can take your lovingly pieced tops and enhance them with your choice of quilting design.

There are many finishes that can be achieved with a Longarm machine and I have listed the main ones here. Please email me if you would like a full brochure of what I can offer

The standard services include:

Pantograph (edge to edge) quilting

This is where you choose one of many patterns and it is quilted from side to side, top to bottom over the entire quilt. It can be done in matching, contrasting, variegated or monofilament thread.

Custom Quilting

Something a bit more special. This is where the quilting takes into account the piecing of the quilt top and different designs can be applied to borders, sashing, plain blocks, pieced blocks etc. This can include stitch in the ditch, meandering and stippling, echo quilting, feathers, motifs and crosshatching.

Basting

This is a service I offer for those who find it hard to baste their quilts prior to hand or machine quilting. A large running stitch is applied every 4 inches to hold the quilt sandwich secure until you have finished quilting it. When complete, just snip every third or fourth stitch and pull out the bottom thread. <

Binding

I can machine attach a double fold binding with mitred corners to your quilt top ready for you to hand finish. Alternatively I can hand stitch it to the back of the quilt. Just supply a 2 1/4 inch strip the length of the perimeter of your quilt.

Wadding

You can supply the wadding or I can supply the following wadding at competitive prices:-

Warm and Natural – 100% cotton.

Threads
This is included in the price of your quilting and I use 100% cotton YLI or Signature threads in a wide range of solid or variegated colours or I can use YLI monofilament thread in clear or smoke. I use a new needle for every quilt.

Quilt Preparation
Before letting me have your top, please make sure it has been pressed well with all seams flat. Trim all loose threads front and back and mark the top edge of the quilt with a pinned on label. If your edges are pieced, please stabilise them by stitching approximately 1/8th inch in from the edge. This prevents distortion and seams coming apart whilst the quilt is under tension on the frame.
Backing should be pieced and pressed with all selvages removed. Please ensure the edges are straight and the corners square. This should be at least 4” larger all round than your quilt top to allow for natural shrinkage during the quilting process.
Wadding also needs to be at least 4” larger all round and pre wash it if required.

Prices
I charge per square yard and therefore to calculate the cost of your quilt measure the sides of your quilt in inches and multiply length x width and divide this figure by 1296. This will give you the square yardage of your quilt, then multiply this figure by the cost of the quilting/basting.

Pantograph (simple – lightly quilted):- £14 per square yard

Pantograph (complex – more heavily quilted):- £18 per square yard

Custom quilting:- From £26 per square yard

Basting:- £5 per square yard

Binding (attached to top only):- £1 per linear foot

Binding(attached to top and hand sewn to back):- £2 per linear foot
